Qatar to double sulfur production

With gas projects recently completed and more to be commissioned, Qatar’s sulfur production
is set to double from the current 1.2 to 2.5 million tons per annum by 2015, Deputy Premier and Minister of Energy and Industry H E Abdullah bin Hamad Al Attiyah said. Attiyah said that Qatar is poised to become a major sulfur exporter in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) having set up a US$1 billion state-of-the-art common sulfur facility (CSF). The facility is designed to handle 12,000 tons per day of liquid sulfur and convert it into granules, which will be stored in a silo and exported to customers worldwide. (April 14, 2010)
