PSA Peugeot Citroën and General Motors to take key steps towards global strategic alliance
PSA Peugeot Citroen and General Motors confirmed that they are taking important steps toward the execution of their Global Strategic Alliance. In line with the terms of their Master Agreement signed on February 29, the alliance partners have selected four vehicle projects. The two companies also identified the next steps in the joint purchasing organization. All four projects will be developed by combining the best platform architectures and technologies from the alliance partners.
The four common vehicle projects selected are:
- A joint program for a compact-class Multi-Purpose Van for Opel/Vauxhall; and a compact-class Crossover Utility Vehicle for Peugeot.
- A joint Multi-Purpose Vehicle program focusing on the small-car segment for Opel/Vauxhall and Citroen.
- An upgraded platform featuring low CO2 for the small car segment of Opel/Vauxhall’s, Peugeot and Citroën’s next generation of cars to be distributed in Europe and other regions.
- A joint program for the mid-size cars of Opel/Vauxhall, Peugeot and Citroen.
The alliance said its target is to launch the first vehicles on these common programs towards the end of 2016.
The next steps in the alliance include the joint purchasing organization, which draws upon the combined purchasing reach of both companies to achieve purchasing synergies that will benefit both companies. Based on the above programs, the two companies predict that they will achieve their synergy target of US$2 billion within five years. (October 24, 2012)
