Progress first to sell biodiesel in HK
Dynamic Progress International, based in Hong Kong, will be the first manufacturer to produce biodiesel in Hong Kong. The HK$20 million (US$2.5 million) facility located in Tuen Mun will refine waste cooking oil from local restaurants into biodiesel fuel. Since biodiesel is not hydrocarbon-based, it will not be subject to the Dutiable Commodities Ordinance. The untaxed fuel will undercut the diesel fuel by at least HK$2 (US$.26) a liter. The company believed Hong Kong was an ideal place for production, given the ubiquity of waste oil in its 20,000-plus restaurants. (July 22, 2007)
