Price hikes fuel street protest

The government’s decision to hike the prices of petroleum products in Nepal in October triggered more protests, with Maoist supporters threatening a transport shut down. Transport workers, consumers, students and various other groups took to the streets protesting the governments decision to hike fuel prices. Despite the protests, Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) ruled out the possibility of a price rollback due to rising international crude oil prices. NOC Managing Director Digambar Jha said the company could not sustain. (October 25, 2007)
