Police busts oil adulteration racket in Mumbai

The crime branch of the Mumbai police in India busted an oil adulteration racket on September 24, seizing 70,000 liters of lubricating oil worth Rs 27 lakh (US$56,314). A team, led by inspector Abhay Shastri, nabbed nine persons, including two kingpins identified as Rai Singh Ram Bahadur and Vijay Dinkar Londe. Police have collected samples of the oil and sent them to the Kalina forensic laboratory. All the accused have been remanded in police custody. According to the police, the gang has links with a Mumbra gang which adulterates the lubricant with black throw-away oil. (September 27, 2009)
