Philippines to launch world-scale jatropha farm
A Singapore-based company and its partners in the Philippines announced plans to develop the world’s first world-scale jatropha plantation in the Philippines. Unlisted Tian Biogreen Energy Limited (TBEL) will jointly develop a 1.5 million hectare jatropha plantation with Power Generation of the Philippines Inc. and a 0.5 million-hectare jatropha plantation with Prize Farms Inc., Lim Hong Hui, chief executive officer of TBEL, said. The combined 2 million hectares of crops is expected to produce 1.2 million metric tons a year of jatropha crude. (July 2, 2007)
