Philippine motor vehicles hit 5.53 million
According to an expert from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), as of May 2009, there are 5.53 million motor vehicles operating in the Philippines. More than half of the country’s registered vehicles, USAID said, are tricycles and motorcycles. The number, USAID added, would grow by 4.6% in the coming years, based on average growth the organization recorded from 2005 to 2007. In its study, USAID said 73% of Philippine motor vehicles use gasoline and 27% use diesel fuel. Most vehicles are in the National Capital Region, followed by the regions of Central Luzon and Central Visayas. (May 29, 2009)
