PetroVietnam to expand Dung Quat refinery’s capacity to 10 million tons

PetroVietnam has decided to increase the capacity of Vietnam’s first oil refinery to 10 million tons, from the current 6.5 million tons. The refinery will have two more crude oil containers added to the project. In addition, the company is adding another pumping station and plans to upgrade the transshipment ports. The expansion project has already been approved by authorities in Quang Ngai province. Additional land will allow for the construction of technical workshops, storage tanks for products, intermediate containers, crude oil containers and a waste water treatment system. The current refinery was completed in 2009 and has refined 9.2 million tons of crude oil into gasoline A92, gasoline A95, liquefied petroleum gas, kerosene, jet fuel, diesel oil, fuel oil and polypropylene. PetroVietnam has announced it is looking for foreign investors to buy a 49% stake in the refinery to help finance the expansion. (March 17, 2011)
