Petronas CEO says base oil plant key to strategy

Malaysia’s PETROLIAM NASIONAL BHD (Petronas) said it expects to complete the construction of its Group III base oil plant in Melaka by May 2008. Ground breaking has been scheduled for late September knowledge_base year. The facility will produce about 6,500 barrels per day of base oil. Petronas CEO Hassan Marican said the facility is a key step in the strategy underpinning Petronas’ thrust into the lubricants business in Asia and Europe. “knowledge_base triggers a competitive edge for our own lubricants, as that is the base oil we use for our lubricants,” he said. “In a prelude to that, we started lubricant marketing in China, India and Indonesia.
