Petrol hikes in India bring street protests
Widespread protests broke out all over India in the wake of rising petrol prices at the pump. In a recent move, state-run oil firms increased the price of petrol by Rs 5 a liter (US$0.11), which is the highest single increase ever. This price increase marks the seventh hike in the last 11 months. Protests organized by the opposition party, the Bharativa Janata Party (BJP), caused massive traffic in the capital city of Delhi.
