Petrobras Distribuidora upgrades two lubricants
Petrobras Distribuidora, the fuel distribution arm of Brazil’s federal oil and gas giant Petroleo Brasileiro (Petrobras) (SAO:PETR3; NYSE:PBR), upgraded its lubricant brands Lubrax Sintetico and Lubrax Tecno, in order to meet the growing market demands. Lubrax Sintetico and Lubrax Tecno were previously labelled as API SL service classification of American Petroleum Institute (API) and will now be labelled as the most advanced API SM, which guarantees larger protection against dirt or contamination entering the engine. In comparison to the API SL, the API SM labelled lubricant offers a number of advantages as higher resistance to oxidation, larger protection against engine corrosion and better performance in low temperatures. Despite the new classification, Petrobras Distribuidora, also known as BR Distribuidora, kept the SAE viscosity classification of the two lubricants. Lubrax Sintetico’s level was kept at SAE 5W/40, while the Lubrax Tecno characteristic keeps its SAE 15W40 classification. (June 26, 2009)
