PetroAlgae to use CRI Catalyst’s hydro-conversion technology

PetroAlgae Inc. said it will use the integrated hydro-pyrolysis and hydro-conversion technology from CRI Catalyst Company to convert PetroAlgae’s microcrop residues into renewable fuel. The combination of the technologies can be used to produce cellulosic gasoline, diesel, jet fuel and premium blend stocks. PetroAlgae uses a micro-crop technology which uses aquatic micro-organisms to produce a residual biomass, which can be then converted to cellulosic hydrocarbon fuels. The commercial collaboration between PetroAlgae and CRI is expected to result in a joint marketing agreement, allowing the companies to produce fuel on a commercial scale. Anthony Tiarks, CEO of PetroAlgae said, “We see great promise in this collaboration with CRI. Based on the joint work so far, we believe our mutual solutions are ready to work together in an integrated conversion process for the direct conversion of biomass to green fuels at commercial scale.” (July 14, 2011)
