Pertamina announces downstream projects
PT Pertamina has announced a series of downstream projects to be implemented in the next few years, to meet its goal of reducing imports by 2017. Pertamina said it will upgrade the capacity of the Plaju, Cilacap, Balikpapan, Dumai and Balongan refineries, as well as build new facilities. Pertamina plans to expand capacity at its Balongan refinery to 325,000 bpd by building a 200,000 bpd crude distillation unit at a total cost of about US$5.2 billion. It will also build a 200,000 bpd refinery at Tuban, East Java at a cost of US$3 billion, which is scheduled for completion by 2014. In addition, it will build a 300,000 bpd refinery in Banten province at a cost of US$4.2 billion together with the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Co. and the Malaysian Petrofield Refining Co.
