PerkinElmer introduces new systems for oil analysis
PerkinElmer, Inc., a global leader in the improvement of people’s health and safety, and in the protection of the environment, introduced the OilExpress™ 4 and OilPrep™ 4 systems for faster oil analysis. The company is also a world leader in lubricant analysis and analyzes approximately 10 million oil samples every year. The OilExpress 4 system features a high-performance Spectrum Two™ FT-IR spectrometer which has multi-tip sampling capabilities and a synchronized multi-tasking autosampler. The system is designed to detect contaminants and degradation of products in oil. It also gives an early warning and identifies component failures within an engine. It detects breakdown of the lubricant material itself. This system of early detection helps prolong the lifespan of engines because it enables operators to perform maintenance procedures at optimal intervals. The system also allows a significant reduction in cost per sample. The system delivers up to 100 samples per hour and reduces environmental impact because it produces an 80% reduction in solvent and waste volumes. Dusty Tenney, president, Analytical Sciences and Laboratory Services at PerkinElmer said, “The new OilExpress 4 system joins the power of the Spectrum Two FT-IR analytical instrument with the scalability of the JANUS® automated liquid handling platform for increased sample throughput. This instrument ensures improved oil and lubricant analysis to help our customers maintain engine functionality. This new product family is one example of our commitment to improving our customers’ laboratory processes.” (April 2, 2012)
