Pearl GTL plant in Qatar now operational

Qatar Petroleum (QP) and Shell announced that their Pearl gas-to-liquids (GTL) plant is now operational and the first flow of dedicated offshore gas is flowing. Shell operates the new plant in a sharing agreement with QP.  Other sections of what is the largest energy project in Qatar will be opened progressively in the next few months. The project includes two offshore platforms connected by pipeline to the world’s largest GTL plant. When the plant is fully operational it will produce 1.6 billion cubic feet of gas per day. This gas will be processed to generate 120,000 barrels per day of condensate and natural gas liquids, in addition to 140,000 barrels per day of GTL products.  The project should be fully operational by early 2012.
