Nissan: electric cars to be price competitive in 3 years
Nissan Motor Co.’s electric vehicles will be price competitive with comparable gasoline-fueled cars in three years, Chief Executive Carlos Ghosn said, without government subsidies. He said Nissan is planning to have global battery pack production capacity of 500,000 in the medium term. Nissan, which will begin to sell electric vehicles in the second half of 2010, is staking its future on full electric battery cars even as its rivals, most notably Toyota Motor Corp. and Honda Motor Co., express skepticism over that technology at least over the short to medium term.
