Nissan Diesel to switch to Volvo engines

Japan’s Nissan Diesel Motor Co. will develop a cleaner-emission truck with Volvo AB, to be introduced in Japan as early as 2009. Nissan Diesel currently buys truck engines from Hino Motors Ltd., but will switch to Volvo engines at the end of its contract with Hino. New regulations on nitrogen oxides and particulate matter emissions will take effect next year in Japan and similar measures will be implemented in Europe and the United States. The new truck will be a four-ton-class mid-size model equipped with an eco-friendly engine developed by parent AB Volvo, which is headquartered in Göteborg, Sweden. (September 15, 2008)
