Nissan calls for government incentives for EVs

Nissan Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Carlos Ghosn has called for government incentives on electric vehicle (EV) sales in China, reports Agence France-Presse. Ghosn said that EVs could help that country and others reduce their dependency on oil, but that government incentives such as rebates and stringent fuel efficiency standards are vital to promote sales. He added, “For many countries that are net importers of crude oil, such as China, [electric cars are] a strategic consideration.” (November 12, 2009)
