Nissan announces joint venture with Ashok Leyland

Japanese car manufacturer Nissan Motor Company’s Executive Vice President, Andy Palmer, announced that the company is planning to produce a new small car in India. During the 82nd Geneva Motor Show, Palmer said, “We are working on multiple options of price entry levels, particularly for the Indian market. One such option is the development of an entry-level car with Ashok Leyland and the new car would be launched by 2014”. The new compact car will be sold for between Rs 200,000 (US$3,781) to Rs 400,000 (US$7,565). Nissan currently manufactures the petrol and diesel versions of the small car Micra at its Chennai plant in the state of Tamil Nadu. (March 11, 2012)
