New low emission fuel launched in South Australia

Bio E-Flex, a blend of up to 85% ethanol with petrol, is the result of collaboration between Caltex and GM Holden to which South Australia (SA) has committed funds, said SA Energy Minister Patrick Conlon. The fuel, commonly known overseas as E85, is now available at three Caltex sites in Adelaide. He said the launch of the fuel in the state represents another step forward in the quest to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The Bio E-Flex is designed for use in Holden’s soon-to-be-released VE Series II Commodore flex-fuel vehicles made in the state. Bio E-Flex is A$0.20 (A$0.18) per liter lower than regular unleaded petrol. Caltex will sell Bio E-Flex in more than 30 sites by the end of October, increasing to 100 in 2011. (August 26, 2010)
