NEA investigates introduction of greener petrol by 2012
With the world moving to “greener” transport fuels, Singapore is starting to investigate oil companies and refiners on the potential for them to introduce even cleaner, ultra-low sulfur petrol and diesel grades in the country. The authorities made the approaches recently, and the oil companies are debating whether they can do it, one oil official told The Business Times, noting that some broad time lines, but not specific deadlines, were mentioned in these “early-stage” talks. According to industry sources, the National Environment Agency (NEA) said the possibility of introducing Euro IV specification petrol is tentatively set for year-end of 2012 and Euro V specification diesel fuel by year-end of 2014.
