Mobil to close Yarraville lube plant

Mobil announced that it would close its Yarraville lubricant blending plant and used-oil analysis laboratory near Melbourne, Australia, because it could no longer keep up with the global market. Mobil Spokesman Alan Bailey said abort 100 workers would lose their jobs in Australia and New Zealand, the bulk of those from the company’s Francis St. terminal. National Union of Workers (Victoria) Assistant Secretary Esmond Curnow said they had been told 36 Yarraville jobs would be axed. Curnow said 19 Mobil employees in the lubricant manufacturing plant would go by February 2011. (February 09, 2010)
