Mitsubishi Motors to roll out clean diesel SUV
Japan’s Mitsubishi Motors Corp. will add a model with a low-polluting diesel engine in its Pajero line. New emissions regulations for diesel-powered passenger vehicles will be fully implemented in September in Japan. Because non-compliant vehicles will not be eligible for registration, Mitsubishi Motors opted to equip its existing models with diesel engines. The new 3.2-liter engine features an upgraded design, including changes in fuel injection technology and combustion chamber shape. The company says it has improved its exhaust gas treatment system, which uses urea to break down nitrogen oxides, and a particulate matter trap. These changes have enhanced both power output and fuel economy, according to the firm. (August 23, 2010)
