Mitsubishi Motors to launch plug-in hybrid sport utility vehicle
Mitsubishi Motors Corp. will start selling the Outlander PHEV as its first plug-in hybrid vehicle in the Japanese market on January 24. The company is targeting sales of 4,000 units by the end of March.
The Outlander PHEV, also the world’s first plug-in hybrid sport utility vehicle (SUV), automatically selects drive modes between an all-electric mode and another mode in which the gasoline engine provides most of the power, depending on driving conditions and remaining battery charge.
The model also features an advanced safety system, which helps prevent collisions by automatically applying the brakes.
The Outlander will sell for suggested retail prices of between ¥3,324,000 (US$37,700) and 4,297,000 (US$48,735).
Mitsubishi plans to launch the vehicle in Europe and North America later.
