Mitsubishi Heavy to double Thai turbocharger output

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. plans to boost Thai production of turbochargers for automobile engines by 100% to an annual 1 million units next year. The move comes in response to automakers in Europe fitting turbochargers on diesel as well as gasoline engines. Turbochargers reuse the energy from exhaust gas to increase engine output, helping fuel efficiency. Mitsubishi Heavy began mass production of turbochargers in Thailand in July of last year. It produces 3 million cartridges a year, exceeding Japanese output. (August 17, 2010)
