Mitsubishi Heavy starts turbocharger production in Thailand

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. said it has started turbocharger production at a new plant near Bangkok, Thailand. The turbochargers will be exported to Europe, where demand is expected to grow as emission controls and fuel efficiency requirements are set to become stricter. Production started at an annual pace of one million cartridges, which will expand to three million in 2011. Turbochargers spin turbines at high speed, using exhaust gases. They can raise the output of a 1.4-liter engine to the equivalent of that of a 2-liter. (July 17, 2009)
