Mercedes launches new Smart Fortwo
Mercedes-Benz Japan Co. launched a new version of the Smart Fortwo two-seat compact car, adding a function that shuts down the engine when idling to improve fuel efficiency and environmental compatibility. The Smart Fortwo Micro Hybrid Drive (MHD) is equipped with what the company calls a start/stop function that boosts fuel efficiency by 24% from the previous model, the Japanese unit of Daimler A.G. said. The Smart Fortwo Coupe MHD will be sold at ยฅ1.84 million (US$20,448), and the Smart Fortwo Cabrio MHD at ยฅ2.13 million (US$23,671). (December 2, 2008)
