Maruti Suzuki to roll out gas-injected bi-fuel car

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd., which is currently selling dealer-fitted compressed natural gas (CNG) cars, is now going a step further by offering factory-fitted alternate fuel variants. Unlike other CNG-powered cars, the upcoming ones will be equipped with a power plant that has a gas-injection system super imposed on multi point fuel injection (MPFI) to make it a bi-fuel vehicle. According to company sources, Maruti Suzuki’s engineers are developing the country’s first dual-fuel engine, running on petrol and CNG, that will ultimately prune the vehicle’s fuel bill to a fourth, making it one of the cheapest to run anywhere in the world. Maruti Suzuki Chairman R.C. Bhargava said the company might come up with the CNG car during 2010-11. (April 1, 2010)
