Marker system to check fuel adulteration to restart

India will reintroduce a marker system to check adulteration of petrol and diesel with subsidized kerosene. The government implemented the system in 2006 and halted it in January 2009 because the markers supplied by U.K.-based Authentix were found inefficient in detecting adulteration in petrol and diesel, media reports said. Local oil marketing companies Indian Oil Corp. (IOC), Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (HPCL) initiated the tender process for kerosene markers in April. The companies based the selection process on uniform standards that they had agreed on. (April 11, 2009)
