Mangalore port starts work on new POL berth
The New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) in India has begun work on the construction of berth number 13, which will help the port handle petroleum, oil and lubricant (POL) products. P. Tamilvanan, chairman of NMPT, said that work for the project has begun on February 12. Construction will be completed in 20 months. The total project cost is estimated at Rs 79 crore (US$17.5 million). After completion, the berth will handle around 7.68 million tons of POL cargo a year. (February 16, 2011)
