Malaysia’s hydrogen study to be completed in 2010
The Malaysian government is carrying out research to study the use of hydrogen to produce electricity and as a transport fuel. Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovations Fadillah Yusof said the study was being carried out to determine its use for static engines like generators to produce electricity and for engines used by fishermen for their boats. “The first test had shown that the use of hydrogen can help reduce the dependence on diesel by 25%. The project, being carried out through a 1.489 million ringgit (US$440,206) allocation that was approved in 2008, is expected to be completed by next year,” said Fadillah. (November 10, 2009)
