Malaysia unveils carbon intensity, renewables plan
Malaysia hopes to cut its carbon intensity by 40-45% by 2020 from 2005 levels, a top government official revealed. “We hope to achieve the same target set out by China,” Malaysia’s Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Peter Chin Kah Fui told Dow Jones Newswires. The government is now finalizing a renewables roadmap to guide the country’s carbon reduction efforts from 2011 onwards. In that plan, the government has set a target of 975 megawatts or 9% of the country’s electricity generation mix coming from renewables by 2020, Chin said. โThis compares with the current level of just 0.9% or 14.5 MW,โ said Chin.
