Lubricating oil racket busted in Deesa

A police raid on September 21 in the city of Deesa, in the Banaskantha district in the state of Gujarat, India, yielded several containers of fake lubricant products, from 5 kilograms to 500 grams and hundreds of stickers of national brands, according to Deesa Police Deputy Superintendent M.M. Parmar. Four persons have been detained, including owners of the unit, Dinesh Bhartiya and Arjun Bhartiya, and two employees. According to the Superintendent of Police of Banaskantha district, Harikrushna Patel, “We have informed the units whose brands are being duplicated. Once they file complaints, we will take action.” Samples of the oil are being sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory at Gandhinagar for verification. Police say the racket may be operating widely in and outside the state. (September 25, 2009)
