Lootah Biofuels, AlgaOil to collaborate on developing high oil content biofuel from algae
Lootah Biofuels and AlgaOil Ltd. of Singapore have announced that they will merge their expertise in pursuing a new project aimed at the development of new high oil content algae for biofuels.
Lootah Biofuels, a fully owned subsidiary of S.S. Lootah Group, was founded in 2010 in Dubai to address the growing demand for alternative fuels in the region.
The arrangement is in line with Lootah Biofuels’ objective of introducing innovative sustainable solutions to address the growing demand for alternative fuels in the region. Their high quality Biodiesel Processor currently converts used vegetable oil into biodiesel that can fuel commercial vehicles. It aims to raise its production capacity, strengthen distribution channels and enhance biodiesel quality.
On the other hand, AlgaOil Ltd. will bring to the joint venture its expertise in the production of algae. The company has focused on algae cultivation with high oil content to produce algae biomass and algae oil in the Philippines. Extracting oil from algae can also solve wastewater problems because the algae can use pollutants in the water for its own growth. Algae also absorb carbon dioxide in the air making it not only an environment-friendly source for alternative fuel. (October 14, 2012)
