Local service station caught selling smuggled biodiesel fuel

A gasoline station owner in Del Pilar, Castillejos, Zambales, Philippines, was caught selling biodiesel fuel which was meant to be sold only in Freeport zones. The Bureau of Customs Run After the Smugglers team (RATS) has brought charges against Araceli Banaag, owner of the BNW gas station. The BNW gas station was found to have 14,000 liters of biodiesel fuel suspected to be illegally brought from the Subic Bay Freeport Zone in Zambales, which is in violation of the country’s Tariff and Customs Code. Tax exempt kerosene and diesel fuel is available to businesses in the Freeport zones. To prevent fraudulent use of the fuel, these products are marked with a fuel marker. (July 21, 2011)
