LNG stations to fuel trucks

A US$100 million Queensland gas deal could lead to a chain of liquefied natural gas (LNG) refueling stations along Australia’s east coast, cutting the trucking industry’s carbon emissions. Under the deal, announced by Premier Anna Bligh, a multi-million dollar plant at Chinchilla on the western Darling Downs will become the first in Australia to convert coal seam gas to LNG for use as fuel. Bligh said it heralded the start of a new industry that could see heavy vehicles switch to LNG, which produces up to 20% fewer emissions than diesel. Gas company BOC and coal seam gas explorer QGC signed the agreement. (March 19, 2010)
