Lanko IOC announces successful completion of its Go Green initiative
Lanka IOC, an overseas venture of Indian Oil Corp., successfully completed its Go Green drive to plant 1,500 saplings with the support of underprivileged school students from all parts of India. Go Green enlisted students from diverse ethnic and religious backgrounds to plant trees recommended by the Forest Department. Each child involved in the program received Rs 100 (US$2.22) per month for three years in payment for caring for the trees they planted. Fifteen hundred children are participants in the program. Managing Director of Lanka IOC, Suresh Kumar, said, “We started the Go Green program last year to promote the habit of caring for nature by actively engaging a large number of members from the younger generation in planting and nurturing saplings. After witnessing the energy, passion and dedication of the young participants we are confident that a strong foundation has been laid for a brighter and ‘greener’ future.” Lanka IOC is in the petroleum retailing business including service stations, Convenio stores, ServoXpress vehicle service centers and emission check centers.
