Kunming eyes 15,000 CNG vehicles by 2010

Kunming city, the capital of Yunnan province, southwest China, aims to have more than 15,000 compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles on the road by the end of 2010, the city government announced on October 29. The majority of the CNG vehicles will be used for public transport, such as buses or taxis, but private car owners will also be encouraged to convert their vehicles, according to the announcement. The stations will source natural gas from the Sino-Burma Natural Gas Pipeline, which is scheduled to start operations in the first half of 2010, according to Kunming Gas Group Corp. (October 30, 2009)
