KPC to take back off-spec jet fuel from BPC

Kuwait Petroleum Corp. (KPC) has agreed to take back the jet fuel it recently shipped to Bangladesh Petroleum Corp. (BPC) as the fuel was found to be “substandard”, BPC Director (Operations) Syed Mozammel Haque said. The fuel was re-tested by an independent party in Bangladesh’s only state-owned Eastern Refinery Ltd. lab. The jet fuel supplied by KPC did not meet specifications and was deviated to an unacceptable limit in terms of colour, freezing point, final boiling point and residue, the BPC official said. But KPC said that when it shipped the fuel, it was of a better quality and in line with specifications. The reason behind the deviation of the quality of the jet fuel at the discharge port in Chittagong is not yet known, Haque said. (September 29, 2009)
