Kosepco to take over bioethanol plant in Clark
Korea South-East Power Co. Ltd. (Kosepco), a unit of Korea Electric Power Corp., is taking over a proposed $300-million bioethanol plant in Clark, Pampanga, after a sister company abandoned the project. Marriz Agbon, president of the Philippine Agricultural Development and Commercial Corp., said that Kosepco would tie up with Filipino-owned Central Luzon Bioenergy Corp. to produce as much as 150 million liters annually. Under a memorandum of understanding, the partners will start commercial operations of the bioethanol plant in Clark in 2012 using sugarcane as feedstock. The firms will use sugarcane from 30,000 hectares of plantations to be put up in Tarlac, Pampanga and Nueva Ecija starting in February. (January 22, 2010)
