Korean automakers post strong sales in June

South Korea’s five automakers saw strong growth in vehicle sales which rose 14.6% year-on-year. Exports to the United States and Europe, as well as to China were up. Hyundai, with its two brands Hyundai and Kia, dominated the market. Hyundai posted a 22.9% year-on-year increase in domestic sales and a 10.4% year- increase in international sales to 292,494 units. Kia reported a slight downturn in domestic sales in June but reported a 30.7% increase in overseas sales year-on-year to 175,115 units. GM Korea posted a 10% year-on-year increase in global sales of 79,557 units. However, Renault-Samsung reported a decline of 2.9% in June sales. (July 1, 2011)
