Korea plans to develop eco-friendly, smart ships
Korea plans to develop next-generation ships that run solely on electric motors, while navigation and operation systems will use new forms of information technology by the year 2015, officials said. The government will present mid- and long-term plans in developing “green” and “smart” ships by the second half of the year, said the Ministry of Knowledge Economy. The road map will include plans to add information technology to operation and navigation systems of vessels and use electricity, instead of diesel, to reduce carbon emissions. (March 15, 2010)
