Kenya's Total expands lube plant
Total Kenya has invested Sh100 million (US$ 1.2 million) in an additional filling line at the company’s lubricating oil blending plant in Mombasa.
This is aimed at meeting the growing demand within Kenya and regional export markets like Tanzania, Seychelles, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
This is the latest development in a series of on-going improvements carried out at the plant, built in 1952. It received ISO 9001:2008 certification in 2008.
“The new line and ancillary equipment have the capability of labeling, filling, capping and batch numbering 3,400 containers per hour. At the end of the line, the lubricant containers are packed in cartons, strapped and labeled ready for storage and onward transportation,” said Total Kenya’s Lubricants Operations Manager Samuel Njenga.
The base oils for blending are supplied from the Total refinery in Havre, France, and the additives are sourced from specialized suppliers.
