Kellogg CEO asks U.S. EPA to temporarily waive ethanol mandate
Kellogg CEO John Bryant asked the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to temporarily waive a requirement that allows a certain percentage of the corn crop to be used in ethanol production. In an interview with Dow Jones, Bryant said, โTo continue to have 40% of the U.S. corn crop going into ethanol production is very questionable policy.” Bryant joined several U.S. lawmakers and industry groups which called for a cut in the mandate. Corn prices in the U.S. soared to historic highs in July after crop yields across the heart of the U. S. corn belt were severely affected by the worst Midwest drought in decades. (August 2, 2012)
