K-Petro to strengthen quality inspection
South Korea’s sole petroleum quality inspecting body, the Korea Institute of Petroleum Quality, has been renamed K-Petro. The institute’s new name and identity were unveiled last week by company officials, who claimed it will now be more strict in its duties to better cope with an increased need for quality control in the petroleum and alternative fuels industry. While the old institute focused on quality test results, K-Petro will now also closely monitor major distribution channels of petroleum products to minimize damages by illegal products and sales practices. The South Korean government is optimistic about the new K-Petro and said it will improve efficiency of quality inspection in the country. (May 21, 2009)
