Joginder Singh assumes post as president and managing director of Ford India
Ford India has announced the retirement of its president and managing director, Michael Boneham, who served Ford Motor Company for 27 years. Upon his retirement, Boneham said he intends to spend time with his family in Australia. His successor, Joginder Singh, assumed office on December 1, 2012. Singh has been associated with Ford globally for more than 30 years, occupying various positions in several areas including general management, strategy and treasury. Prior to his appointment as president, Singh served as Ford’s president and managing director, Business Services Centre.
In his first speech, Singh announced that Ford India is planning to come out with eight products over the next three years, starting with Ecosport, which is scheduled for early 2013 launch. Singh added that he plans to increase Ford’s sales and service outlets across the country, taking it to tier-two and even tier-three markets.
Ford, which came to India in 1955, has earned modest success with only a 3% market share. It recently announced a new investment of US$2 billion for expanding operations at its plant in Chennai, and the building of a new factory in Gujarat to manufacture engines and cars which will increase Ford’s capacity to more than 600,000 engines and 440,000 cars in India.
