JGC completes phase 1 of Dung Quat expansion study

Yokohama, Japan-based engineering contractor JGC, completed the first part of a feasibility study on expanding Vietnam’s Dung Quat oil refinery.   The proposed expansion would bring the plant’s annual processing capacity to 9.5 million tons of crude oil, from the current capacity of 6.5 million tons. It supplies 33% of domestic fuel demand. The expansion will allow the refinery to supply 40-50% of domestic demand when completed. “ The whole feasibility  study is expected to be completed three months later,” said Nguyen Hoai Giang, general director of the plant’s operator Binh Son Oil Refining & Petrochemical Co. Ltd. (BSR). (June 10, 2011)
