Japanese firms push products that help reduce CO2 emissions

Japanese companies are promoting products that help reduce energy use and global warming gas emissions in Southeast Asia as the region begins to embrace tougher environmental standards. Yazaki Corp. started testing digital tachographs, which record a vehicle’s speed over time in Thailand that it says can help truck drivers reduce carbon dioxide emissions. Hitachi Metals Ltd. has teamed up with Mitsubishi UFJ Morgan Stanley Securities Co. to promote its amorphous metal for use in electrical transformers in Vietnam. Yamatake Corp. plans to start helping factories cut energy consumption in Indonesia and elsewhere as early as next year, with an eye toward winning several orders annually in Southeast Asia.
