Japanese car makers in race to find next big thing

Japanese automakers are rushing to develop next-generation green vehicles by leveraging their strength in battery materials and power control systems, areas in which they hold a distinct edge over their foreign rivals. Seven Japanese automakers plan to enter into or expand operations in hybrid vehicles, and the main battlefield is shifting to the development of a plug-in model that can be charged at home.
