Japan, U.S. eye clean energy development project

Japan and the United States aim to agree in November on a joint project to develop clean energy sources such as solar power and biofuels as part of their efforts to forge a new partnership in combating global warming. The two countries are expected to push ahead with the envisaged joint project even if a change of government occurs in Japan after the August 30 House of Representatives election, according to sources. Tokyo and Washington are looking to agree on the project during the planned visit to Japan by U.S. President Barack Obama in November, the sources said. (August 15, 2009)
